Julian’s artistic interests reflected both his Japanese and American heritages – from traditional western forms of watercolor and acrylic painting, pencil and charcoal drawings, to photography, and Japanese animation and computer graphics. He strongly considered majoring in Computer Graphics with a focus on special effects before ultimately deciding to pursue a degree in Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton. Julian was an avid budding collector of art by living artists and enjoyed interacting with local southern California artists in their studios, galleries, and on art walks. While his own art focused on urban photography and still-life renderings, he tended to collect works by more abstract artists.
